Vaipahi Water Gardens
Picturesque landscaped garden with a magnificent natural waterfall.
Water Gardens of Vaipahi
The Gardens of Vaipahi were a sacred place for Tahiti’s indigenous people. “Paradise on Earth” is equally appropriate. Bubbling springs, streams, romantic ponds, and waterfalls alternate in these one-of-a-kind water gardens. In between, a diverse range of tropical plants thrive, which you can discover on three different hiking trails. Hiking from nearby Maiteia through the Tahitian jungle will bring you to the mountain lake Vaihiria.
A panoramic view of Tahiti’s mountains can be enjoyed from its shores, 600 meters above sea level. Before returning, take a refreshing swim in the island’s only freshwater lake. A visit to the Fe’i mountain banana plantation is recommended for refreshments.
The Water Gardens of Vaipahi are located next to the beautiful village of Teva and, as the name implies, are Vaipahi’s public gardens, a place to become acquainted with Tahiti’s flowering diversity. The ideal first port of call for truly immersing yourself in French Polynesia’s flora and fauna and getting to know the plants you will encounter repeatedly throughout your trip.
The gardens of Vaipahi are an ideal stopover on your round-trip around the island of Tahiti, offering breathtaking views of the water, light, and lush vegetation. The rich flora here is made up of nearly 75 different plant species that have been planted near the waterfalls that flow directly into Lake Vaihiria.
The Vaipahi Gardens are popular with both locals and tourists. Tahiti’s elementary schools prefer the gardens for fun educational excursions with students, introducing them to Tahitian culture in a natural setting.
