Matira Beach

Bora Bora | Beach

Matira Beach

Te Fare Manaha Museum

The most stunning beach in the South Seas is Matira Beach. Due to its length and location at the southernmost point of the island, Matira Beach is frequently referred to as the most stunning beach in the entire South Pacific.

The majority of the island’s hotels and restaurants are located close to Matira Beach, and the beach is open to the general public. However, the beach is surprisingly deserted for the majority of the time.

The two-kilometer stretch of shoreline gives unadulterated South Seas bliss: a bright white sandy beach as a base, a shallow, sandy lagoon entry in front of it, and a palm-lined line with the lofty green hills of Bora Bora in the distance behind it.

Both locals and visitors unwind at this idyllic location, and snorkelers in particular should make a separate journey to Matira Beach.

The beach is known as “The Aquarium” for a reason: as soon as you enter the lagoon by swimming just a few meters, you are surrounded by a variety of vibrant South Sea fish that freely swim about snorkelers. It is also recommended to stroll to the Matira Point peninsula in the southernmost part of the beach.

Bloody Mary’s – Where the Rich & Famous eat

The Bloody Mary’s is a must-visit for all tourists in Bora Bora. The most renowned restaurant in French Polynesia is located near Matira Beach in Povoi Bay on the island’s western coast at PK 38, 98730 Pahonu.

The excellent seafood restaurant has been open since 1979 and is known as a hotspot for celebrities. All notable visitors, numbering over 230 as of today, are inscribed on the two Walls of Fame at the venue’s entrance, including Johnny Depp, Janet Jackson, and Kim Kardashian.

So don’t be surprised if Harrison Ford or Denzel Washington shares the catch of the day with you. Open Monday to Saturday from 09:30am to 11pm. If you like this restaurant, learn more about Blood Mary’s here.

Can I buy something to eat, when at Matira Beach?

A few simple eateries offer food and beverages straight on the beach. Take a stroll to the Matira Beach Snack from Point Matira for superb eating. It serves sushi and other Tahitian dishes and is open every day for lunch and dinner. Read more about the Snack Matira here.

Is Matira Beach the only public beach in Bora Bora?

There are several public beaches on Bora Bora, but Matira Beach is the only one that is worthwhile to visit. Here, everyone is welcome, and there is a lively atmosphere with easy snorkeling, safe swimming, and natural shade provided by palm trees.

How do I get to Matira Beach?
